How exactly is Psychotherapy conducted?

Psychotherapy is an alliance between therapist and patient. The patient utilizes the clinician’s expertise and assistance to reach his/her treatment goals. Some treatments require a few sessions while others may require months of therapy. The result of successful psychotherapy is to empower the patient to face life’s challenges in the future independently. Although Ms. Klopstock’s theoretical orientation is cognitive behavioral, oftentimes she incorporates other clinical approaches to maximize treatment efficacy. Her treatment style combines empathic nonjudgmental listening skills and emotional support with an active didactic teaching approach. Most patients report feeling emotionally relieved when leaving each session but facing unpleasant issues in therapy may naturally cause uncomfortable feelings. Ms. Klopstock’s treatments include teaching empirical coping skills to face the most challenging of life situations. Needless to say, psychotherapy calls for an active effort on your part and you will have to work on things we talk about between sessions to attain therapeutic goals. Your spouse, partner, friend or significant other may be asked to provide us with their feedback. Their perspective may contribute valuable information about things that you may not be aware of and that could assist in attaining your treatment goals. Studies have shown significant benefits from psychological interventions, oftentimes leading to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and relief from distress. Whilst there are no guarantees of what you may experience or resolve, you will receive treatment from a dedicated professional who is passionate about her job. After the initial evaluation a therapeutic plan will be presented to you. Sessions are 60 minutes in length.
